My First Adventure

Now I know that I haven’t even technically started my gap year yet, but I just finished what was an incredible experience that definitely “widened my world” so I thought I’d share.  I had the opportunity to work in a doctors office as a secretary/intern for two weeks, and even observe some procedures.  That may not sound incredibly exciting to everyone, but I loved every second of the experience.  As many of you know, I have observed in the OR previously, and the things I’ve seen and done there has done so much to further my fascination with medicine.  But this experience was unique because of the way it allowed me to see another side of the process, and gave me to chance to begin to understand how much work goes in to ensuring that a physicians office runs smoothly.  On top of that, I definitely gained an appreciation for everyone who works a full-time job (including my parents!).  I came home from work pretty drained everyday (and usually crashed on the couch and watched some quality TV), and now completely understand why people don’t like to commute!! I don’t think that I’ve ever used the little horn on the Mini Cooper so much! HA! But it really was a great experience, and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

TRAVEL UPDATE: We’ve applied for our Tanzanian visas (YAY!) and have received the packing list for when we go.  We’re planning on taking donations with us (most likely soccer balls for the kids and medical supplies, etc.), and would absolutely love your support if you are interested.  Once we know exactly what we are looking to take, I’ll post more information here and on Facebook…so keep your eyes open!

Oh, and I’m definitely looking forward to our trip to London…it’s one of the cities that I’ve always dreamed of going to. Hopefully it won’t be too rainy, but I have an adorable raincoat all picked out and ready to pack just in case!

As always, I’d love to hear from you with any comments or questions that you have about what I’ve done or will be doing! Feel free to comment on this page below, or contact me via Facebook or email.
